Watch This if You Want Your Intelligence Insulted

April 28, 2009

Have you seen this commercial on TV yet? Brilliant. The Corn Refiners Association would like you to believe that HFCS is made from corn and is nutritionally equivalent to sugar and fine in moderation.  Wow.  HFCS is made from corn. Yes, and cocaine is made from a cocoa leaf. HFCS is nutritionally equivalent to sugar. Yes, that is very true it has absolutely NO nutritional value whatsoever.  HFCS is fine in moderation. OK, if fine means that it won’t kill you instantly but it will slowly overtime just like alcohol abuse…or cigarette smoke…or lack of exercise.  It makes me laugh to see how different industries position things to make you think that they’re not that bad or even nutritious.

While you may think that it’s extreme that I am making this statement take in to consideration what has happened to the health of North Americans.  Obesity is up 60% in the last decade, child obesity rates are sky-rocketing,  text books had to be burned that used to say adult-onset diabetes and change the name to type 2 diabetes since so many children are now diabetic, all chronic disease is through the roof, and we’re led to believe that HFCS is not bad in moderation.  I happen to think that that is extreme.

It’s frustrating to watch TV these days, period. Let’s tell people that HFCS is harmless and tell people to “ask their doctor” about a variety of drugs, because we could all use a little Cialis and\or Plavix in our daily routine.

I agree. The 168 billion dollar juggernaut we call the pharmaceutical industry would love for you to think that how you feel is a great way to measure your health and if you don’t feel good ask your doctor for a pill to make the ills go away. How many people felt great the day before a heart attack? Diagnosis of cancer? Probably fine. People need a better way and we as chiropractors can provide that. Keep on savin’ lives Dr. Christina!
